Old Central High
|
|
This poem made the e-mail rounds. Enjoy! Lots of memories
Remember?
"Those were the days" We thought would never end, Old Central High in downtown South Bend.
The State Champion Bears in Basketball, Beating the Cavemen in football each Fall.
Remember downtown a short walk away, Where one could stroll at end of school's day?
Kresge's and Grant's Woolworth and Greene's Robertson's, Spiro's were all on that scene.
Wyman's, Ellsworths's Royal Hawaiian Shop, Benton's and Star Store A smiling traffic cop.
The Oliver, Hoffman and LaSalle Hotels Those South Shore trains with their clanging bells.
Clark's Cafeteria or Modern for eats, The Philadelphia served us such sweet treats.
And movies always were great At the Colfax, Palace, Granada or State.
Michigan Street with stores galore Remember "Mr. Peanuts" patrolling his store.
Christmas time was especially bright, Windows glowed in a festival of light.
The Big Clock on the corner by American Trust Where we waited each day for our transit bus.
Things seemed so good in so many ways When we were young those were the days.
